Most of us want to know how to run and lose weight; however, the health benefits of running is far greater than just losing weight! The fact is I could write endlessly on this truth.
Running is an exercise one can do alone, with friends, outdoors or indoors, virtually any time of day, and it tends to be something people either love or dread. But, there are many who formerly despised running who have come to enjoy it. This is because once you get started with running and understand the many benefits, it becomes something very enjoyable.
So how do we run and lose weight? We should begin with some quick tips on running.
Running Guidelines:
1) Always stretch before you go for a run. You will want to stretch your leg and calf muscles out fully. If you fail to do this you can easily hurt your muscles and put a sudden end to your new running habit!
2. Begin every run at a reduced speed. That way, your body will have time to adjust to the exertion. I would recommend this for about two to three minutes, a little longer if you are inexperienced.
3. Once you have completed your warm up, increase your speed to a jogging speed. Remember that this will be the pace you resume once your finish your fast running. You should feel comfortable at this speed, with smooth, steady and balanced strides.
4) After you have jogged for a little bit it is time to run. It is at this speed that you will maximize your ability to burn fat. If you are on a treadmill, you may want to increase the incline at this point, this will greatly increase your body’s ability to burn fat.
5. Alternate your routine between a steady jogging and running. If you are just starting out running then aim to run for about 30 minutes, if you are a bit more experienced then you can aim for an hour.
Mixing your running between fast and steady is what is called HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training. This style of training is what will give your body the best ability to burn fat while you are running.
What makes running a great way to lose weight?
The most obvious positive feature of running is that you will undoubtedly use a greater number of calories than you would if you simply walked or remained at rest. Research has concluded that running is one of the best methods you can use to burn calories.
If you also start eating a healthier diet while running 3 days a week, you will certainly lose weight, without a shadow of a doubt.
Secondly, you are exercising your heart, hands, legs and your lungs. Your lung capacity and efficiency will improve as you continue your workouts. Allowing your body to bring in more oxygen, this maximizes your body’s ability to burn fat.
Thirdly, it will lower your blood pressure, increase your body’s circulation and allow you to relax!
